The USDA-ARS Carl Hayden Bee Research Center in Tucson, AZ performs many of the same functions as the USDA-ARS Beltsville Bee Lab in Beltsville, Maryland. However, this facility focuses more on the study of and control measures for Africanized bees and other honey bee issues relevant to the American Southwest. The Carl Hayden Facility staff perform diagnostic tests for beekeepers to help identify and properly treat many honey bee diseases and problems.
